MIGHTY KIND

#MMPKIND

“Everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about.  Be kind. Always.”  Those words are the mantra of the Mighty Meredith Project. Kindness is at the core of the MMP.

When Meredith was at the acute stage of her illness, "her mother would tape the well-wishes and get-well cards to a wall in the corner of her room, soon to be referred to as the cozy corner. Eventually, the cards covered her entire room, making a peaceful and supportive sanctuary where she would escape from long days at the hospital or exhausting days at school.  The visual and tangible messages of kindness and love helped Meredith get through some dark days when hope was thin."

When hope was seemingly lost, the mailbox was always a bright part of the day as the long-lost art of cards and hand-written notes brought much joy to Meredith.  It was then, Meredith realized the impact one note of kindness can have on someone and has turned that into the guiding light of the Mighty Meredith Project.

We promote kindness, especially to those "who are fighting a battle you know nothing about."  It was the kindness from so many that got Meredith through the darkest of days for many months.  She personally knows the true impact of a note, a word, a gesture and wanted to pay that forward.  Therefore, our kindness initiatives focus on those who may be suffering in silence and just need a simple gesture to get through the day.

Kindness through Confections

Kindness through Confections

Baking gets Meredith through difficult and painful days and baking she has done, absolutely perfecting chocolate chip cookies among many others.  It was hard to see her not bake for many months because she simply did not feel well enough.  Now, as she has improved, many appointments and visits always include a set of some sort of fresh baked goods for her health care  providers.

February 2017 - Kindness Day

February 2017 - Kindness Day

Using the platform that “Everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.”, the North Reading Middle School learned about Meredith's 2-year medical journey through a video produced by NRMS students and teachers on how kindness from many has been her source of strength and the impact one act of kindness can have on a person.    Students were welcomed Friday, 2/16 with kindness magnets, viewed the video, discussed the impact of being kind and took the kindness pledge.

April 2018 - Teaching Kindness

Thank you North Reading Brownie Troop 62796 for the invitation to speak about kindness and the impact one act of kindness can have on a person’s day. In return, these amazing second graders each donated a stuffed animal for me to share to those who may need a little comfort on a difficult day and bike helmets for our "Helmets for Heads" campaign.
